Tirana, Albania/"Empowering the role of women in policing and advancing leadership and gender equality in Southeastern Europe"

As part of the Albanian Presidency of SEPCA for the year 2025, on May 22, 2025, the SEPCA Office, in cooperation with the UN Women Office in Tirana, the Swedish Government, and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Albania, organized an event focused on empowering the role of women in policing and advancing leadership and gender equality in Southeastern Europe.

 Present at the meeting were representatives from SEPCA member countries, the UN Women Office in Albania, the British Embassy in Albania, as well as the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination.

During the event, participants had the opportunity to discuss various issues related to the participation and career progression of women in police institutions, as well as the challenges that hinder their inclusion in these institutions and the obstacles they face in their careers.

Participants also explored ways to prevent harassment and abuse of authority, sharing best practices and strategies applied in SEPCA member countries, with the aim of promoting gender equality within police institutions.

Among other topics addressed during the event were:

  •  Breaking barriers and creating opportunities for women in policing.
  •  Addressing harassment and abuse of authority.
  •  Ensuring safety and equality for women in policing.
  •  Building stronger alliances and strengthening regional and international cooperation on gender equality in police forces.
